joan rivers is a crusty racist old white who has made fun of domestic abuse and who said that the Palestinians deserve to be wiped out. i am not about to feel sorry for her just because satan is calling her home. let her gag

She also made fun of 3 women who were kidnapped and raped repeatedly, people with downs syndrome, the holocaust, and more. She also made a career out of calling people fat and ugly… SMFH.

Joan Rivers is a comedic legend and fashion icon. With all due respect, you both have Ms. Rivers very, very misunderstood. Being a comedian, EVERYTHING that comes out of her mouth publicly is a punchline. She is not REALLY racist, she does not REALLY think the Palestinians should be wiped out, nor does she think any tragic event or condition is funny. She is playing a character. It’s no different than reading a script while acting in a film. It’s astounding that you do not understand this. I do not condone every joke she’s ever made and she has crossed the line TOO far many times, but there is no malice or hate intended in her craft.

Her brand has been built on crossing the line, by shocking people. The laugh isn’t meant to be achieved necessarily by the actual horrible thing she is saying, but by the fact that she had the nerve to cross the line so horrifically. Everyone in the entertainment industry who has been made fun of by Joan adores her. In fact it’s actually sort of a career goal or milestone to be made fun of by Joan. It’s all in good fun and she invites many of them to be on Fashion Police to look back on their red carpet looks and allow them make fun of themselves. They’re in on the joke.

Oh, and as for the Holocaust jokes? She’s Jewish. There has been (and still is) so many human tragedies and devastation, if we can not turn to one of the oldest forms of human coping mechanisms, laughter, what else do we turn to? If we can not laugh at ourselves or the horrible things that plague us, how else are we supposed to have any light in this world? Again, I am not condoning joking about certain topics, but trying to explain what she does.

It’s okay to not like her or disagree with what does, but in the end, wishing ill will on someone says nothing about the other person and absolutely everything about you.
